Mercure Koh Chang Hideaway

Great place

The resort is on Bailan Beach, a 45 minute drive from the car ferry port. There is a beautiful piece of forest to the south on the hill overlooking the property, and more to the east across the road. We are fairly low maintenance travellers and our needs were well met by the resort, facilities and staff. The restaurant has a seafood buffet on Fridays and a steak buffet on Tuesdays. We had the seafood buffet which was very good value. We ended up eating at the restaurant for most of our meals. There was a 2-person band playing at the restaurant in the evenings and we found the music quite pleasant.

Check in and out quick and efficient. I stayed at pool-access room. Very spacious and light room. Everything is there. Laundry is also very fast and reliable. There is a nice bar with pool table for relaxing in the evenings with friends with a karaoke facility upstairs.There are a tree top adventure park at 200 meters from the hotel, and a dozen of small local restaurants and shops in the outskirts of the hotel, and cheap local taxis.

We stayed 8 nights in this hotel. The hotel is in the southern end of the Island, apart from the other resorts, but in general Koh Chang is a slow running, peaceful island, looks like Phuket 20 years ago... Is ideal for couples and families, is a quiet place. If you are seeking for typical thai nightlife and night clubs is not your place, because those services practically none exists in the island and less in the southern end.

The facilities were good, pool, restuarants etc,

The hotel is generally excellent but does lack some of the finer points. On arrival, (hot day) the aircon was off and the room was full of mosquitos. Next day the lavatory blocked and the daily newspaper delivered to the room was in Thai (when I am obviously a foreigner!). Following day, the aircon stopped cooling and the key card expired. All these items were quickly fixed by the friendly and helpful staff, but shouldn't have occurred in the first place. Overall I would recommend this hotel, especially if you want a tranquil setting. The facilities were good, pool, restuarants etc, although the the beach was not brilliant.
